Palace on Wheels, the most revered luxury train in India, embarked on its maiden voyage on 26th of January, 1982. At the time of its introduction as tourist train offering tours in Rajasthan, Palace on Wheels was composed of the refurbished personal carriages of erstwhile maharajas of Rajasthan.

Since its inception, the facilities on board the Palace on Wheels have enabled the guest to travel in utmost comfort and pampering. Later, in mid nineties, the Palace on Wheels carriages were replaced with modern replicas of the original carriages which were equipped with state of the art amenities. Palace on Wheels has 14 cabins resounding with the rich heritage and royal opulence of the erstwhile princes of a bygone era. Each coach is designed with a distinct motif and named accordingly. Each cabin named after former princely states of Rajputana reverberate with the aesthetics of yore offering a vista to the royal past and the splendor regal living. Traditional décor fuses seamlessly with the contemporary élan of the avant-garde amenities and comfort. Each cabin comes equipped with television with live channels, attached bathrooms with running hot/cold water, intercom and channel music. Each cabin is personally attended to by a Khidmatgar (personal attendants) to take care of any need or request of the guests.
