Royal Rajasthan on Wheels Destinations

Delhi

Located within India's vast state of Delhi, the city of New Delhi is a true bustling metropolis, filled with exciting sounds and smells. The much-loved capital city of the Republic of India, New Delhi is originally built by the British to be the capital of India, while nearby Old Delhi, known locally as Shahjahanabad, was Islamic India's capital city.

Delhi itself is steeped in history, being thought to date back some 5,000 years. Therefore, tourists exploring the region can expect to enjoy a host of ancient temples, shrines and buildings. Plenty of historic structures reside in New Delhi, along with many highly acclaimed modern buildings, and these can all often be enjoyed whilst whizzing around in one of the city's famous three-wheeled auto rickshaws.

Jaipur

Jaipur- Known as the Pink City, Jaipur's buildings have a pink tinge to them, being built of the local sandstone. Built by Jai Singh II, it is now one of the world's major gem centres.

Jaipur was established in 1727 and it was the country's very first planned city, featuring a particularly organised structure and network of roads. Full of atmosphere, Jaipur features many wandering cows and camel carts, which are a regular sight all over the city and often being the cause of traffic congestion.

Places of interest are the city palace or Chandra Mahal - Converted as a Museum, Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds),Jantar Mantar - The Royal Observatory built by the Maharaja Jai Singh. Excursion to Amber fort (The Massive citadel on the hill) Highlighted by an elephant ride upto the entrance of the fort. The fort is a living example of the grandeur and majesty of the Rajput Kings.

Khajuraho

Khajuraho, made famous for its temples, is in a relatively small area of Madhya Pradesh. The Khajuraho complex of temples remains unique against the other temple architecture of India making it a place high on tourist lists. They are internationally renowned for their sculptures and the artistry that went into the construction of such temples. Containing the largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples, Khajuraho is an architectural sanctuary.

In a hundred year period 85 temples were constructed in the area, quite amazing considering the techniques that were used. The exterior of the temples show a storyboard of life through gods and goddesses, warriors to mythological animals.

The temples of Khajuraho are India's unique gift to the world, representing, as they do, a paean to life, to love, to joy; perfect in execution and sublime in expression. Life, in every form and mood, has been capured in stone, testifying not only to the craftsman's artistry but also to the extraordinary breadth of vision of the Chandela Rajputs under whose rule the temples were conceived and constructed.

Udaipur

Udaipur, the capital of the former princely state of Mewar is a beautiful city in Rajasthan, India. Udaipur City, formally known as the city of lakes. Udaipur the "City of Lakes" is one among the most romantic and most beautiful cities of India.

The city overlooks the calm, blue waters of lake Pichola. It was earlier surrounded by a wall which had 4 main gates, although the gates and much of the wall remain, a great deal of it has disappeared. Udaipur is called as the Oasis of the desert because of its lakes. The city acquires its scenic beauty from the Aravalis. Three lakes- Pichola, Fateh Sagar and Udai Sagar makes it an Oasis in the desert.

The imperial city of Udaipur boasts of picturesque lakes, massive forts, beautiful palaces, art museums, well-laid gardens, architectural temples, colorful fairs and festivals. Anything from these places could be your place of interest. You will definitely be mesmerized by the scenic beauty of the large lakes that form a picture-perfect background of Udaipur city.

Chittorgarh

Chittorgarh is located in the South Eastern part of the Indian and the state of Rajasthan. The administrative head quarters of Chittorgarh District in Rajasthan, is an old city covers a total area of about 10,856 square km which is about 3.17% of the total geographical area of the state.

Alauddin Khilji was the first to sack Chittaur in 1303 A.D. overpowered by a passionate desire to possess the regal beauty, queen Padmini. Legend has it, that he saw her face in the reflection of a mirror and was struck by her mesmerising beauty. But the noble queen preferred death to dishonour and committed 'Jauhar'.

Synonymous with the tradition of valour and chivalry, Chittorgarh or Chittaur, the capital of Mewar, was under the Rajput rule from the 7th to the mid 16th century. Fiercely independent, it was ravaged thrice, and each time like Phoenix - it rose again. The Hill Fort of Chittorgarh is a treasure of history and offers to the tourists an insight into the life of the Great Rajput rulers, who laid down their lives fighting a superior enemy instead of leading a life of submission under them.

Ranthambore National Park

Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in the Indian state of Rajasthan comprises distinct areas with varied conservation history and virtually separated geographically, with mere narrow corridors linking them to the core, Ranthambore National Park. These are mainly, the Ranthambore National Park, Keladevi Sanctuary and Sawai Mansingh Sanctuary.

It is spread over a highly undulating topography, varying from gentle to steep slopes, from flat-topped hills (Indala, Doodh-Bhat and Chiroli) of the Vindhyas to the conical hillocks and sharp ridges of the Aravallis, from wide and flat valleys (Lahpur, Nalghati, Khachida, Anantpur etc.) to narrow rocky gorges. An important geological feature, the "Great Boundary fault" where the Vindhyas were brought against the ancient Aravallis, passes from here.

Over the course of seven centuries, the cave temples of Ajanta evolved into works of incredible art. Structural engineers continue to be awestruck by the sheer brilliance of the ancient builders, who, undaunted by the limitations of their implements, materials, and skills, created a marvel of artistic and architectural splendor. In all, 29 caves were carved, 15 of which were left unfinished; some of them were viharas (monasteries)—complete with stone pillows carved onto the monks' stone beds—others were chaityas (Buddhist cathedrals). All of the caves were profusely decorated with intricate sculptures and murals depicting the many incarnations of Buddha.
